So I haven't blogged in months (that's what happens when you have a newborn) and what is the first thing I decide to blog about? A Christmas party. Yes, a Christmas party. Not just any Christmas party but the annual Christmas party Michelle and I go to where you have to dress up according to a particular theme. This year's theme was Christmas carols and songs.
After looking through a list of Christmas songs and tossing around a few ideas, we finally decided on one. The song we chose - "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree"
I had the general idea of what I wanted to use for my costume but it became solidified when I went to the dollar store. I got a about 150 feet of garland and ornaments as well as a party hat that I covered with garland and a tree topper to be the top of the tree. Under the garland is a green skirt and turtleneck I got from Salvation Army. I cut a hole in the hem and pushed through some coaxial cable I had in the basement to make it hoop out. The garland is attached to the skirt with zip ties. Zip ties have a million uses. The garland wasn't attached to the shirt but wrapped around. The only downside was that it came a little loose up top as the night went on.
To top it all off I got a few battery operated light sets. I put the battery packs in my pocket and wrapped the lights around me.
Michelle decided to go with an 80s rocker theme as she "rocked around the Christmas tree." She had most of the clothes in her closet. I picked up the glasses, bracelets, and glow sticks from the dollar store. The guitar was mine from high school that's been sitting in the basement unused!
Everyone at the party votes for the winner each year. Each year we try to bring our A game but we lost by one vote. Win or lose, we have a blast each year deciding what to wear and then making our costumes. We are already looking forward to next year.
