this summer at moran park

It has been a fun summer at Moran Park.  God continues to bring people here who are passionate about getting involved in the neighborhood and who want to actively live out the gospel and demonstrate his love.  My temptation is to program it all.  You can measure and control programs.  But I am realizing how they have such a limited and often short term effect.  It has been much slower but more effective to see people step up and mentor people and to live a lifestyle of serving the neighborhood not just one time events.

This summer we have been teaching through 11 of the biggest questions people submitted.  These questions include:
  • How could a loving God allow children to suffer?
  • Will God forgive me if I lie on purpose?
  • What happens oafter I die?
  • Will the world end in 2012?
  • How old is the Earth?
  • Why is there so much violence in the Middle East?
  • Can I be gay and be a Christian
Needless to say my brain hurts each week and they have been huge topics to try to address adequately on Sunday morning.  Will all of these topics I have been reminded how it all goes back to the gospel.  These have everything to do with the death, resurrection, and return of Jesus.  This is not only our hope as followers of Jesus but affect and influence how we see and interact with the world as well.

It's hard to believe that the summer is well on its way to being over.  It has been fun to get more involved in the neighborhood.  This Saturday we are hosting a neighborhood park clean up day at 8:30am.  Hope to see you out there.  Looking fowarding to meeting more of the neighbors.
